Peloton Interactive Inc. has agreed to obtain commercial fitness-equipment maker Precor Inc. for $420 million in cash, in a move that will assist in breaking into commercial markets and fuel its manufacturing capability at a time when the company is pacing to meet demand.Months into the pandemic, Peloton, known for selling $2,000-plus stationary bikes equipped with screens that indicate subscription workout classes, has battled both with decreasing delivery delays and long wait times for customer-service support as the pandemic drives a rush in demand for its connected stationary bikes and treadmills.Peloton has allocated the setbacks to shipping logjams, particularly at ports as the bikes are transferred to the US from manufacturers abroad. The deal with Precor will help in bringing some of that manufacturing home. Precor has two US-based manufacturing facilities, which will join Peloton’s network of arbitrator manufacturers and its Tonic facilities that are situated in Taiwan.
