Kia Corp. has approached possible partners regarding a plan to put together Apple Inc.’s long-anticipated electric car in Georgia, according to people informed with the situation. The proposal would demand a multibillion-dollar investment, according to individuals familiar with the matter, who are concerned over the deal not being finalized. If fortunate, it would propel the iPhone maker into the car business after a few years of discreet work which its engineers organized to alter the 100-plus-year-old automotive industry. The possibility of a final agreement was launched into question when Kia’s parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, said last month, then sought to play down, that it was in talks with Apple to collaborate on an electric driverless car. Apple has never confirmed those negotiations, and its alliances with other automakers in the past have fizzled.Hyundai has spoken with Apple about investing more than $3 billion in a negotiation that would see its subordinate Kia initiate the building of cars under the tech company’s brand as soon as 2024, a person familiar with the matter said. Under such an agreement, up to 100,000 vehicles could be placed together in the first year of Georgia, where Kia has a factory.
